Owning your own home is a big financial commitment, but have you ever considered what would happen if you couldn’t afford to meet your monthly mortgage payments because you couldn’t work, either through an accident, illness or becoming unemployed?

The harsh truth is that you still have to find the money to pay your mortgage, and that’s where mortgage insurance, or repayment protection, as it’s sometimes known, comes in.

Direct Line’s mortgage repayment protector is available to anyone with a Direct Line mortgage that is not in arrears, who is living permanently in the UK and who is in permanent work for a minimum of 16 hours a week. (You may still be eligible if you’re on a fixed-term contract, but please contact us to check.)

The monthly premium on our mortgage insurance will vary in each individual case, as it costs £5.45 for every hundred pounds of cover. For example, if your monthly mortgage payments are £500, then your mortgage insurance will be £27.25 a month (£5.45 x 5).

With Direct Line’s mortgage insurance, if you’re off work for more than 30 days due to illness, injury or unemployment, we’ll pay the mortgage every month you’re off work – or part of your payment for every day that you’re off – for a maximum of 12 months.

You can learn more about mortgage insurance online or view the policy document before applying.
